Decorah eagles on webcam

Scroll down the above web page for information on the eagles. Eggs were laid Feb 17, 20, and 24. Hatching occurred in late March. All three eaglets have hatched and are covered with fluff. The activity on this nest is fascinating to watch. The nest is 6 feet wide, 5 feet deep, and weighs over 1,300 pounds. The above web page includes a link to a slide show for installing the cameras.

The food on March 31 consisted of fish and rabbit. The video setup changes at dusk to an infrared light and camera. The eagles cannot see the infrared light, so they are in darkness at night. Sometimes they sleep with their beak in the nest and sometimes with their head turned back into their feathers.

This is the link to my screenshots for 2012. Additional screenshots will be added frequently until the eaglets are gone from the nest, in July.

Washington, D. C. 3/10/2012

We went on a University of Delaware Academy of Lifelong Learning bus trip to Washington, D.C.

We started in the National Gallery of Art, then walked to the front of the White House. We arrived just after the area was cleared of people. The Secret Service police won't say what is happening or how long the situation will last, so we walked around the Ellipse (it was also fenced off) to the Washington Monument, then to the National Museum of Natural History.

The cherry trees had buds but no blossoms.

Painting with light

The FHF Photography Club met Tuesday, February 14, to "Paint with light". Four residents brought their cameras, tripods, small flashlights, shutter cables, black cloths, and objects to photograph. After setting up our cameras on tripods, and our objects on black cloths, we turned off the room lights so we would be photographing in a dark environment. We were dressed in dark clothing so the camera would not see us. The cameras, therefore, would record only where the flashlights were shining. We experimented with different camera settings, flashlights, and the length of time the objects were lit.

Caribbean cruise - day 10

Labadee, Haiti. Labadee is a private resort owned by Royal Caribbean Cruise Line. It has long beaches with fine white sand, water activities, zip-lines, and an artisans village where local residents sell items they have either purchased or created. Most items have substantial fees, except swimming and sun-bathing.

Caribbean cruise - day 9

We saw a school of dolphins and numerous flying fish shortly before dinner.
